We had a great meeting – caught up with Elaine, who hasn't met with us for some time.
We are still focusing on getting our portfolios ready for the Feb. 2010 SCBWI conference in New York. Starting in July, we are going to bring in our best work, so we can discuss what is missing, etc. in order to be ready for the conference.
Next meeting is February 27.
Even if you don't have anything to share, you are still welcome to come to the meetings. We need all the support and encouragement that we can get!

November 21, 2008 Meeting
Meeting Participants:
Carole, Bev, Brenna, Lynn
This was Brenna's first time meeting us, so we looked at some of her wonderful illustrations. She is planning a New York trip to see some publishers - good luck Brenna!
There will be no meeting in December because of the holidays, so our next meeting will be January 30. Hopefully, before that, there will be a field trip to The City Museum to sketch kids in action...more on that to come.
Another field trip to the St. Louis Artist's Guild for a Tuesday Night Sketch Group session was discussed, possibly in February.
Optional assignment: Illustrate a character in a medium you've never tried before.

October 24, 2008 Meeting
Our group's leader (Carole) thought it would be a good idea to post the notes of our meetings here, so even if you couldn't make it, you can know a little of what we talked about and get the optional assignment, etc.
Meeting participants:

We discussed our goals, which is for each of us to get a portfolio ready (10-12 pieces) in time to show at the Feb. 2010 SCBWI Winter Conference in New York. We also discussed the possibility of meeting and having sketch sessions either at the St. Louis Artist's Guild, or at a place like Discovery Zone where we could sketch from children in action!
Optional Assignment: Develop a character and draw this character doing three different things. The goal here is to be able to make the same character recognizable at different angles. Bring it to the next meeting.
PLEASE NOTE: Since the last Friday of November is the day after Thanksgiving, our next meeting will be held on Friday, November 21st at Border's on Olive.
